Volkswagen is pressing on with its electric vehicle plans, which includes using the brand’s trusted model names on future EVs.

The next vehicle in the plan is the ID. Tiguan, which takes on the Tiguan name and adds the ID. designation up front to signify it is an EV.

The ID. Tiguan will be sold alongside the fuel-burning Tiguan.

The ID. Tiguan, which will launch in 2027, will be a replacement to the ID.4 and ID.5. The ID.4 had been sold in Canada but it was discontinued here following the 2025 model year. The ID.5 was not available here.

“More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, in a news release.

“The Tiguan represents a versatile, premium vehicle and embodies the essence of True Volkswagen. With the ID. Tiguan, we are carrying this product promise into the electric future. The all-electric model builds on the strengths of the bestseller and offers premium design, generous space, intuitive operation and innovative technologies. Together, both models form a strong offering for our customers’ different powertrain preferences.”

Full reveal planned in October

For now, the automaker is only showing ID. Tiguan prototypes wearing camouflage.

The full reveal of the production model is planned for October.

The new EV will go on sale in some markets in early 2027.

Other Volkswagen EVs to recently pick up trusted names include the ID. Polo and ID. Cross. These two models are not sold in Canada.
