Toyota dominates Canadian Black Book’s best retained value awards yet again

The Canadian Black Book announced its 2026 Best Retained Value Awards, which are based on a vehicle’s retained value after four years.

Canadian Black Book, the organization that provides used vehicle valuation data and a residual value forecast, has announced its 2026 Best Retained Value Awards.

Once again, Toyota has dominated the annual awards.

A slew of Toyota vehicles made the awards list and the automaker scored the top overall brand award in the mainstream category – Toyota’s 10th straight year of doing so.

“Strong retained value is an important reflection of the quality, durability and reliability built into our vehicles,” said Steve Pilkey, VP, sales and marketing, Toyota Canada, in a news release. “As customer needs continue to evolve, we remain focused on providing a diverse range of options while delivering the quality product and overall experience Canadians have come to expect from their Toyota and Lexus vehicles.”

The Canadian Black Book announced the winners Oct. 19. This was the 21st year the organization has released its Best Retained Value Awards.

They are based on how much value a vehicle retains of its original manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

For the 2026 awards, the awards were based on vehicles from the 2023 model year.

Across all brands, 2023 model year vehicles retained an overall value of 57 per cent. That’s down from 67.5 per cent last year, but keep in mind that in 2022 vehicle production was still recovering from the COVID-19 slowdowns and production was down and new and used vehicle prices were, as a result, up.
