Volkswagen has revealed the all-new ID. Tiguan, which launch in some markets in early 2027.
Canadian market timing hasn’t been announced.
The battery-electric vehicle is a replacement to the ID.4 and ID.5 – only the ID.4 was sold in Canada – and picks up a familiar VW name.
Volkswagen called the ID. Tiguan one of the brand’s most important electric vehicles for the years ahead.

“The Tiguan is our best-selling model worldwide, and the ID.4 and ID.5 are among our most successful electric cars. The ID. Tiguan brings these two success stories together. A pure, confident design with the presence of a vehicle from the next class up, intuitive operation and, thanks to MEB+, a range of up to 600 kilometres: a new benchmark for our electric SUVs made in Germany,” said Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer, in a news release.
The 600-kilometre range claim is based on the more optimistic Euro-observed WLTP test standards. By North American observed EPA testing, that should work out to around 514 kilometres.

Three powertrain choices
Volkswagen will fit the ID. Tiguan with three powertrain choices, two with rear-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive. They may not all be offered in Canada.
The options include:
- RWD with 140-kW (188 hp) motor and 58-kWh battery
- RWD with 210-kW (282 hp) motor and 77-kWh battery
- 4MOTION AWD with 220-kW (295 hp) and 77-kWh battery
The rear-wheel-drive version with the larger battery would be the range king of the trio.
The automaker said the EV has a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kilograms.

Timeless and modern design
The design of the compact electric SUV takes on the timeless VW shape but with a modern appearance.
The ID. Tiguan is based around the automaker’s Pure Positive design language.
It has precise lines and surfaces that are tightly sculpted, which gives the EV a more stable look.
Volkswagen set out to make the ID. Tiguan look like a premium class vehicle.

Passenger display enters ID. Tiguan
Front screens are becoming a big feature across all automakers, and in particular among the German car brands.
The ID. Tiguan is no exception and it gets an available front passenger display. The front passenger screen measures 12 inches.
Volkswagen points out the front screen, thanks to a privacy mode, won’t distract the driver. The user can also isolate the audio of what they’re watching via Bluetooth headphones.
The driver gets a 10-inch display and the centre infotainment screen measures 15 inches.
Volkswagen did not forget about drivers who prefer physical buttons. The ID. Tiguan has those too, which the driver can use to adjust the HVAC.

Retro display
The ID. Tiguan uses digital displays; however, Volkswagen gave them an available retro look.
The driver is able to active the retro display by using the View button on the multi-function steering wheel, giving them access to a digital version of the instrument clusters of the Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.
The Golf IV display, for example, will give the ID. Tiguan the iconic blue-red instrument cluster in the driver display. That gives the vehicle a classic speedometer on the left and a rev counter on the right.
Since the ID. Tiguan has no fuel-burning engine, the rev counter doesn’t display an engine speed but the vehicle’s energy flow.

Two wireless charging spots
The ID. Tiguan has a smartphone tray with two Qi2 wireless charging points with integrated magnetic rings to keep the phones in position.

Premium interior
Volkswagen also wanted to extend the outer premium look to the inside of the vehicle.
The automaker gave the ID. Tiguan a clear design language for a premium atmosphere as well as colour schemes that wouldn’t look out of place on higher-end vehicles.
