Stellantis employees and retirees from the automaker’s Windsor plant have made a big contribution to the local United Way.
They contributed $825,670.26 to United Way Centraide Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent, representing an 11 per cent increase compared to their previous United Way campaign.
The donation was announced at Catholic Central High School, a school that participates in United Way’s On Track to Success Program. This program provides students with academic support, mentoring, mental health resources, career exploration and financial assistance, with the intention of supporting students in priority neighbourhoods to graduate high school and attend post-secondary education or enter the trades.
“Our employees and retirees continue to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to strengthening the communities where we live and work,” said President Trevor Longley, Stellantis Canada, in a news release. “Through their generosity, we are helping ensure local students and families have access to essential support, from education and technology to mental health resources, so they can succeed in the year ahead.”
What United Way programs are being supported?
The automaker said the contribution will directly support several United Way programs.
These include:
- Access to technology and academic support for school-age children
- Mental health counselling services
- The regional food bank network serving thousands of local residents
- On Track to Success Program
“Stellantis, Unifor Local 444 and 195 have been extraordinary partners who share our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed,” said CEO Lorraine Goddard, United Way Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent, in the release. “Their continued generosity reflects a deep commitment to helping young people reach their full potential through education and the support they need to thrive. Together, we’re creating opportunities that will strengthen our community for generations to come.”
