Porsche Taycan picks up new features for 2027

The electric four-door car is getting virtual shift changes, updated infotainment, an available Manthey Kit and more.

Porsche is giving the Taycan, the sporty four-door electric car, some new features for 2027.

One of those is a feature that lovers of cars with combustion engines likely miss, gear changes.

The updated Taycan is getting a new E-Shift system that creates virtual gear changes, with noticeable shift jerks and an electric sport sound, simulating the sound and feel of a car with a traditional gearbox.

The car simulates eight gears and even has paddle shifters on its GT sports steering wheel, for drivers who want to “shift” their own car.

Manthey Kit comes to the Taycan

The Taycan is becoming Porsche’s first EV to get an available Manthey Kit.

Porsche already previewed the kit when the automaker took a Taycan equipped with the kit to the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife race track and ran it at a blistering lap time of 6:55.533 minutes. That’s quicker than any production electric car, albeit wearing track tires.

This kit is available on the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package – which itself is already a sporty car even without the kit.

The Manthey Kit is available on new purchases as well as a retrofit kit.

More range with new tires

Porsche is giving the Taycan new summer tires with low rolling resistance. These tires are available on rear-wheel-drive models.

Combined with the Performance Battery Plus, the tires give the car a WLTP-estimated driving range of up to 700 kilometres, an increase of about 20 kilometres. That’s roughly a range of 599 kilometres by our North American EPA/NRCan standards.

Updated infotainment

The car gets the latest generation of Porsche’s infotainment system, described as having a modern, minimalist design language, with a 3D vehicle model in the same colour as the car, configurable widgets and improved voice command with an AI-supported voice pilot.

The system also has expanded Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration with new navigation features such as precise online route calculation, 3D representation of buildings and an improved charging planner

The system can also receive over-the-air updates.

The smartphone storage tray has wireless charging and a magnetic ring mount.
