Porsche has a modern upgrade available for owners of some of its older sports cars.

The automaker revealed a modern infotainment system, which it calls the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus). The system is available for select 2009 to 2016 Cayman, Boxster and 911 cars.

It offers a retrofit for an older car’s stereo that gives it modern technology.

What cars is the PCCM Plus available for?

Porsche said the new generation of the PCCM Plus system is available in two versions.

One version is available for the 2012 to 2016 cars, including the 911 (991.1 generation), and Cayman and Boxster (981 generation).

The second version is available for 2009 to 2013 cars, including the 911 (997.2 generation), and Cayman and Boxster (987.2 generation).

Canadian availability and price

The new PCCM Plus systems are now available at Canadian Porsche dealerships.

The system has a Canadian price of $2,844.32. Installation is extra.

What features does the infotainment system have?

The infotainment retrofit gives cars a high-resolution seven-inch display, which can also be controled via a multi-function steering wheel, if equipped.

The system gives the cars modern conveniences such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Where permitted, the system could even show YouTube when the vehicle is parked.

Other features include a speed limit display in the navigation map and oil temperature and pressure can also be monitored via the trip computer screens.

On the Boxster and Cayman cars, the system enhances the car’s existing parking assistance by displaying nearby obstacles.

The navigation features satellite imagery and a Scenic Roads feature. The latter feature can suggest more engaging drives, such as by directing the driver through winding, scenic roads.

Stereo system features include HD radio, FM and AM, Bluetooth audio streaming with song and artist details, compatibility with existing audio systems, internal and external microphones, a nano SIM card reader with 4G connectivity for external media devices and over-the-air map updates.
