Volvo will be introducing Google’s next-generation AI-powered assistant to its cars and you don’t have to buy a new vehicle to get it.
The automaker said Google Gemini will be retroactively added to vehicles dating as far back as 2020 through an over-the-air update.
The rollout has already begun in the United States and will come to other markets, including Canada, later this year.
What does Google Gemini do?
Volvo said Google Gemini goes beyond fixed voice commands. The system allows for intuitive, intent-based interactions and it can understand natural conversations, context and the driver’s needs.
The automaker said the system can help you plan your trip and learn about your destination, and offer suggestions of possible spots to hit there.
It can also help you find pit stops that have what you desire, such as places that sell croissants, Volvo said.
It can read and summarize your text messages and can send texts for you as well.
It can turn on music for you from the apps you want to listen from, and choose a playlist for you based on what you ask it to play.
Availability of features may vary by market and may differ depending on the owner’s subscription.
What vehicles will get Google Gemini?
Google Gemini will be introduced to vehicles with Google built-in dating back to 2020.
