Audi has updated its bestselling electric vehicle, the Q4 e-tron, giving it more range, technology and more.
The Q4 e-tron is available in a traditional SUV body style and a Sportback version, which has a coupe-like sloping roofline.
The Q4 e-tron is also the first Audi vehicle that supports bidirectional charging, offering features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which can charge external devices. In some markets, the Q4 will support Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality.

Exterior design
The Q4 gets a more muscular stance with short front overhangs, large wheels and muscular side panels.
The S line variant adds vertical blades that run from the corners of the front and rear bumpers.
Functional air intakes help reduce drag by channeling air flow around the front wheels.

More range
Audi gave the Q4 e-tron more efficient electric motors, which help increase range. There are also updated power electronics and new software functions to help reduce energy consumption.
Audi said the new transmission utilizes a low-viscosity lubricant that reduces friction losses, helping extend range, particularly in colder weather.
The automaker said all-wheel-drive models gain between 16 and 32 kilometres of range, depending on variant, while rear-wheel-drive models get about 30 more kilometres of range.
Based on WLTP test standards, the estimated range and horsepower per powertrain variant, are as follows:
- Q4 SUV – 440 km, 201 hp
- Q4 Sportback – 451 km, 201 hp
- Q4 SUV performance – 578 km 282 hp
- Q4 Sportback performance – 592 km, 282 hp
- Q4 SUV quattro – 558 km, 295 hp
- Q4 Sportback quattro – 573 km, 295 hp
- Q4 SUV quattro performance – 541 km, 335 hp
- Q4 Sportback quattro performance – 554 km, 335 hp
Keep in mind the estimated range is based on the WLTP test cycle observed in Europe, which is more optimistic than the North American standards. Expect those range ratings to be reported lower when the model arrives in Canada.
Charging speed is also improved on the quattro performance models, which can utilize DC fast-charging rates of u p to 185 kW, up from the previous 175 kW.

New lights
Audi upgraded the Q4 e-tron’s lighting system, giving it digital LED daytime running lights with segmented technology with selectable light signatures up front.
At the rear, the SUV gets digital OLED rear lights. A proximity detection system warns following vehicles if they come too close to a stationary vehicle.
Optional matrix LED headlights and digital OLED rear lights give drivers an ability to customize the look.

Interior tech
Like many luxury automakers, the Q4 e-tron’s dashboard s now comprised of multiple screens.
A panoramic display pairs an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch touch display, which gets large tiles for quick access to features.
New for the Q4 e-tron is an optional 12-inch passenger display.
The vehicle can also be equipped with an augmented reality head-up display, which projects information such as turn-by-turn navigation onto the windshield in two layers. Audi said the AR system creates visual elements that look like they’re floating 10 metres ahead of the driver or even further, depending on the situation.
The Q4 e-tron gets two cooled charting trays and two USB-C ports under the armrest and two optional USB-C ports for the rear.

Safety features
Audi said available Tech, Tech plus and Tech pro packages provide different levels of driver assist features.
Standard features including a parking system with a distance display, cruise control ready for adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with emergency assist, traffic sign recognition, attention and fatigue warning with driver monitoring and active front assist with evasion and turn assist, front cross traffic assist, and front emergency brake assist.

Space
The cargo area offers 515 litres of space on the SUV model, with capacity able to expand to 1,487 litres with the rear seats folded.
The cabin also offers about 25 litres of total storage space in various compartments.
