Audi has launched an all-new Q7, which gets more power, more luxury content and an all-new design.

The redesigned Q7 and its sportier SQ7 sibling are launching for the 2027 model year.

The midsize three-row SUV has been the company’s roomiest vehicle, but will soon be supplanted by the Q9, a full-size three-row SUV.

The Q7 is intended for those who want room for six or seven passengers without having to navigate city corners in a behemoth of a vehicle.

“For more than 20 years, the Audi Q7 has represented the perfect premium SUV. With its new generation, we carry this mission forward. It combines a sporty, powerful design with a highly versatile interior, first-class materials, and a wide range of technologies,” said Audi AG CEO Gernot Döllner, in a news release.

“The flexible seating with up to seven seats, the large panoramic sunroof for a spacious feel, and high-quality, harmoniously coordinated materials underscore its premium status. Its confident performance, powered by a robust drivetrain and standard quattro all-wheel drive, makes the new Q7 a versatile all-rounder for business, family, and leisure.”

Powertrain

Let’s skip to the powertrain specs.

Q7 powertrain

In North America, at launch, the 2027 Q7 will be powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine with 429 hp and 442 lb.-ft. of torque. Those are increases of 94 hp and 73 lb.-ft. of torque over the current V6, and 168 hp and 169 lb.-ft. over the current four-pot.

Power is routed to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive via an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. The Q7 also has a new limited-slip centre differential with preload, which Audi said improves traction and steering response for a more agile driving feel that doesn’t sacrifice stability.

The 2027 Q7 will hit zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and has a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds, Audi said.

SQ7 powertrain

The sportier SQ7 is also gaining power.

Its twin-turbo 4-litre V8 engine produces 591 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque, increases of 91 hp and 22 lb.-ft. of torque.

Audi said the 2027 SQ7 will hit zero to 100 km/h mph in 3.9 seconds. Towing capacity is also 7,700 pounds.

The Q7 has an optional adaptive air suspension, which is standard on the SQ7.

Exterior design and features

The redesigned Q7 has a muscular design with a large front grille.

The Q7 rides on wheels measuring up to 22 inches, while the SQ7 gets rollers up to 23 inches.

Audi is giving the midsize SUV its impressive lighting technology.

The Q7 will, for the first time in North America, offer matrix functionality. These digital matrix LED headlights with micro-LED technology are designed to give the driver of the Q7 more lighting ahead without blinding other drivers.

The SUV also gets digital OLED taillights, and available advanced turn signals that can cast a light onto the ground at night.

Interior content

Buyers can choose a seven-seat configuration or opt for middle-row captain’s chairs for a total of six seats.

All seats are power adjustable.

In a seven-seat configuration, the three middle-row seats can accommodate three side-by-side child seats.

Cargo volume is 2,211 litres with the second- and third-row seats folded.

The Q7 gets a large panoramic sunroof, and a new slimmer roof structure improves headroom.

An optional feature of the sunroof is a Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal layer that can switch the transparency of the sunroof. Another option is available illumination of the glass roof, with the lighting colour adapting to the personalized ambient lighting inside the SUV.

The 22-speaker sound system has up to 1,360 watts of power. The front seats also get headrest speakers with seat actuators, adding a physical experience to the music.

The Q7 gets Audi’s MMI panoramic display, a curved OLED screen comprising a driver display and a centre touchscreen. There’s also a passenger display with a distraction-free privacy mode, which is standard.

A head-up display is optional.
