BMW has revealed the seventh-generation 7 Series, and the latest flagship sedan from the German automaker will include a trio of powertrain types.
The next-gen 7 Series is debuting for the 2027 model year.
The new Seven will launch with a fully electric model, the i7 60 xDrive, which will by followed by the plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive sometime in the first quarter of 2027.
Later on, the automaker will introduce an M Performance version powered by an internal combustion engine powertrain, featuring a V8. The automaker didn’t provide details of the M model so it’s possible it could have some electrification such as mild hybrid support.
All versions benefit from BMW’s Neue Klasse (new class) of technologies.
All versions will be assembled on a single production line at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria. Assembly for global markets will begin in July.

i7 powertrain
The launch model, the i7 60 xDrive features two sound-isolated electric motors delivering all-wheel drive with a total output of 536 hp and 549 lb.-ft. of torque.
BMW said this will propel the car from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited at 240 km/h.
The car uses BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and a 115.5-kWh high-voltage battery with new cylindrical cells. These cells offer 20 per cent higher volumetric energy density compared to the company’s fifth-gen units.
BMW estimates a driving range of 560 kilometres on a charge.

750e powertrain
The 750e xDrive gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring an inline six-cylinder engine with 308 hp paired with an electric motor integrated into the transmission offering another 194 hp. Combined, the pair produce 483 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.
BMW said the 750e will hit zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The top speed in electric mode is 140 km/h.
The automaker didn’t provide the PHEV model’s electric-only driving range.

Exterior design
The exterior can be called bold. It utilizes a monolithic design language.
The car has an illuminated large front-end kidney grille and a newly designed BMW badge.
BMW said it wanted to combine sportiness, dynamism, luxury and comfort into the design.
Optional BMW Crystal Headlights contain 12 crystal glass elements per light and offer a unique look.
During a startup animation and when the daylight running lights are switched on, and after dark, LED units backlight the crystals. Combined with the illuminated kidney grille, this creates a light signature that in unique and unmistakable.
The optional M Sport Package and M Sport Pro Package give the saloon sporty elements such as prominent air intakes, large air curtains, rear diffuser, side skirts, window surrounds and more. The M Sport Pro Package amplifies that with darkened elements, including on the grille surround and rear lights and adds other features.
These packages also include various sporty interior elements.
Dual-finish paint
The saloon introduces the BMW Individual Dual-Finish paint concept, which combines a matte paint finish in the lower area and a manually applied metallic finish in the upper body. There’s also a hand-drawn coach line.
This paint option requires more than 75 hours n the paint shop, about six times longer than a standard paint job.

Interior technology
The new 7 Series loads up on technology.
It gets the BMW Panoramic iDrive screen setup running BMW Operating System X.
There’s a floating central display, a passenger display that’s standard on all models and the BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects along the full width of the bottom of the windshield.
An available BMW Theatre Screen offers a 31.3-inch touchscreen with 8K resolution to the rear. The rear screen includes an integrated camera for video conferencing. Occupants can also connect devices via an HDMI port.
BMW said deploying the Theatre Screen brings down the sunshades on the side windows, rear window and the panoramic glass roof to reduce outside light into the rear of the cabin.
The car comes standard with an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and has an optional Bowers & Wilkins diamond surround sound system with Dolby Atmos and up to 36 speakers.
The optional audio system features a seven-band equalizer with different sound profiles and surround speakers integrated into the head restraints in the front and outer rear seats.

A front-seat option adds massage with nine programs and three intensity levels.
