Nissan offers glimpse at upcoming vehicles, including Rogue Hybrid, Xterra

The company said it will streamline its product portfolio, offer more powertrain options and include AI drive technology in most future models.

There’s nothing like the possibility of a company’s collapse to motivate it toward creating some standout products customers want.

Nissan, a company with well-documented struggles of late, has laid out its long-term vision, calling it Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life, which previews some upcoming models.

These new models include an all-new Rogue Hybrid e-Power, Xterra, Juke EV and more. Not all vehicles in the preview are destined for Canada, but the Rogue Hybrid and Xterra are.

“This is the right moment to articulate Nissan’s long-term vision as we move beyond the Re:Nissan recovery plan and set a clear path for the future. Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority. By advancing mobility intelligence, we will deliver intuitive, advanced, and reliable products and technologies that offer outstanding value and enrich how mobility is experienced,” said Nissan CEO and president Ivan Espinosa in a news release.

AI technologies

Part of the product plan is to utilize artificial intelligence technologies, including AI-powered driver assistance technologies to upcoming vehicle models.

The company said it intends to deploy Nissan AI Drive technology in 90 per cent of its lineup eventually.

The first model will be the Nissan Elgrand, which will launch this summer, offering next-gen ProPilot driver assist technology with end-to-end autonomous driving available before the end of fiscal 2027, the automaker said.

More hybrids

Nissan also said it intends to offer a wider range of electrified powertrains, including its Hybrid e-Power technology.

Streamlined product portfolio

Nissan intends to knock down its lineup of 56 models across the globe to 45, with a plan to exit underperforming segments and to use that capacity to grow others.

While the company will have fewer vehicles, it intends to offer more powertrain options for each.

Upcoming vehicles

Now we come to the fun part of the automaker’s long-term vision, new vehicle releases.

This includes a new Rogue and X-Trail with Hybrid e-Power powertrains. These models are part of Nissan’s global core models.

Next, there’s the revived Xterra, which is destined for the United States and Canada. It will offer a body-on-frame SUV model.

This doesn’t impact us much here in Canada, but Europe will get the Juke EV and Japan will get a new Skyline performance car.

Nissan intends to reinvigorate the Infiniti brand with the 2027 QX65, a new premium sports sedan and a luxury hybrid compact SUV by the end of 2028.

A note about the premium sports sedan: in the past, Japan’s Nissan Skyline served as the basis for North America’s Infiniti sedan. If that holds true again, that Skyline model should give us a glimpse of what the future Infiniti sports sedan will look like.

Redefined approach for Canada and U.S.

Nissan said it intends to grow its North American sales with the next-gen Rogue Hybrid e-Power, as well as all-new V6 and V6-hybrid-powered body-on-frame models, beginning with the return of the Xterra.

Nissan said investments in the EV segment will remain “disciplined” and will be responsive to market conditions and policy evolution.

All-new Rogue

Nissan’s Rogue plays in the important compact SUV segment.

The company said the next generation model will launch for the 2027 model year sometime in late 2026.

“Rogue has long been at the heart of Nissan’s success in the U.S. and Canada, and the next generation represents a major step forward for this incredibly important model,” said Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president, chief product and planning officer, Nissan Americas, in a news release. “With hybrid e-Power, the all-new Rogue will bring the smooth, responsive feel of electric motor driving to one of the most popular compact SUVs in North America, while staying true to what customers value most – efficiency, confidence and everyday usability.”

Xterra set to return

Nissan intends to launch the revived Xterra in late 2028.

What’s more, the company is exploring the possibility of having a family of five vehicle models built on a new body-on-frame platform to be shared with the Xterra. This could include pickup trucks and SUVs across Nissan and Infiniti brands.
