An electric BMW M3 is coming.

While that is common knowledge, the German luxury car maker has offered us a preview look at the upcoming model.

BMW released images of a prototype wearing camouflage colours at the company’s Munich assembly plant.

The images of the upcoming electric M3 were revealed when the automaker celebrated the production of its one-millionth BMW M vehicle.

That one-millionth car, by the way, is a stunning M3 wearing a spectacular BMW Individual Fire Orange III special exterior paint, BMW announced Oct. 2.

“BMW M combines road and racetrack capabilities with everyday practicality,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, in a news release.

“The one-millionth BMW M vehicle shows that these values are still very much appreciated by our customers, 40 years after the market launch of the first BMW M3. This motivates us to continuously develop our BMW M high-performance vehicle portfolio based on BMW M Neue Klasse technology, including fully-electric models, in line with our core brand promise.”

Munich plant to produce EVs

BMW Group Plant Munich, where the one-millionth M vehicle was produced, will also produce the fully electric M3.

The new high-performance EV will benefit from BMW’s M Neue Klasse technology.

The electric M3 will be the second Neue Klasse model produced at the plant, as the facility also assembles the car’s non-M variant, the all-electric i3.

Starting in 2027, the plant will only produce electric vehicles. BMW said the plant was retooled for this purpose.

“The BMW M3 has close ties to the BMW Group’s main plant in Munich,” said Peter Weber, Peter Weber, head of BMW Group Plant Munich, in the release. “We are delighted that we will also be producing the first fully-electric BMW M3 here in Munich. BMW M has a special emotional significance for our associates here – so we are especially proud to be actively shaping the future of this icon.”

Few details about the upcoming electric M3 have been revealed to date.
