Polestar 4 SUV launches with spacious cargo room

The Polestar 4 SUV takes the standard Polestar 4 with a coupe-like profile and gives it a more traditional boxy design that increases cargo space.

Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar has revealed a new vehicle, the Polestar 4 SUV.

The new model takes the standard Polestar 4, which features a coupe-like profile, and gives it a more traditional boxy SUV design to open up the cargo space.

Cargo space comparison

The Polestar 4 SUV gets up to 655 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats and 1,665 litres with the rear seats folded. Once you include the frunk space, total space increases to 1,680 litres. This is greater than the Polestar 4 coupe’s 526 litres behind the rear seats and 1,536 litres total.

The Polestar 4 SUV, like the coupe-like version, is a compact model. The Polestar 4 is currently the least expensive vehicle in the automaker’s Canadian lineup.

The SUV version also gets a traditional rear window, whereas the coupe version omits this feature and instead uses a rear camera to let the driver see behind the vehicle.

The SUV also has a traditional rear-view mirror, but buyers can choose the digital rear-view mirror that’s included in the coupe. The digital mirror is said to offer a wider field of view and an unobstructed field of vision.

The interior is not much changed compared to the coupe, offering a technology-focused cabin with minimalist design.

The SUV also has an optional Harman Kardon premium sound system that was specifically tuned for the SUV. The system packs 12 speakers and 1,400 watts of power.

Powertrain performance

The Polestar 4 SUV is built on the same mechanics as the coupe and is available with two powertrain choices. Both powertrains get their energy from a 100-kWh capacity battery.

The Dual motor all-wheel drive version gets 544 hp and 506 lb.-ft. of torque. Polestar said this version will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It also has a WLTP-estimated range of up to 600 kilometres. By our NRCan/EPA standards, that should work out to 514 kilometres.

The Rear motor variant gets 272 hp and 253 lb.-ft. of torque, which should be good for a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 7.3 seconds. It also has a WLTP-estimated range of 630 kilometres, which should be about 539 kilometres by the North American NRCan/EPA test standards.

Polestar said DC fast-charging can charge at speeds up to 200 kW.

At-home Level 2 charging is capable of speeds up to 11 kW in Canada.

Performance pack

Buyers who want a more sporty character out of their Polestar 4 SUV can opt for the Performance pack, which gives the EV recalibrated ZF active dampers, high-performance Brembo brakes with calipers in a Swedish gold colour, new 22-inch wheels and Pirelli P Zero performance tires.

Vehicle-to-Load capability

The SUV has Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, a bi-directional power feature that allows it to power external devices with AC power. This is a particularly useful feature for camping as the vehicle can power certain equipment.

The SUV also has a new Camping mode, which allows the parked vehicle to offer a climate-controlled interior.

Occupants can use the front and rear displays, USB-C ports and the vehicle’s power outlet.

Polestar also fitted the vehicle with Google Gemini, an AI-powered virtual assistant capable of natural voice interactions.

Availability

The Polestar 4 SUV is assembled in South Korea and production has already started.
