Manual transmission returns to Porsche 911 Carrera S

Until recently, the only 911s available with a stick shift were the Carrera T and GT3, but for 2027 the Carrera S will have that option too.

Porsche is helping to keep the manual transmission alive by increasing its availability in North America.

The automaker announced the 911 Carrera S is regaining the row-your-own-gear option courtesy of a new MT Package launching for the 2027 model year.

Until now, the only 911s that had a manual transmission option were the Carrera T and the GT3 (including GT3 with Touring package). The Carrera T is essentially a manual-only version of the base Carrera, while the GT3 is an all-out speed machine.

The Carrera S gives buyers another 911 option with three pedals, one that offers significantly more power than the Carrera T without having to give up the car’s ride comfort as you would if you opted for the GT3.

All three versions, the Carrera T, Carrera S and GT3 are available in coupe and cabriolet (convertible) body styles and all three come exclusively with rear-wheel drive.

About the 911 Carrera S with MT Package

The Carrera S is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 473 hp. That’s a massive increase over the Carrera T’s 388 hp and down slightly from the GT3’s 502 hp.

Porsche said the Carrera S with the MT Package prioritizes driving enjoyment over maximum acceleration. Case in point: the Carrera S with its standard PDK transmission will hit zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while the same car with the MT Package will do it in 4.1 seconds, assuming the driver is as quick at shifting as whoever tested the car’s acceleration for Porsche.

The MT Package adds more than just a third pedal and a stick shift.

The Carrera S with MT Package includes rear-axle steering, a PASM Sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 millimetres, a Sport Chrono Package, unique exhaust tuning, titanium exhaust outlets with black trim, a SportDesign front fasia and a red “S” model designation. A sticker on the rear side window helps point out the car has a six-speed transmission.

The car also comes standard with new centre wheel locks which reduce weight by seven kilograms compared to standard Carrera S wheels.

Interior features

The interior gets a walnut shifter.

Four-way Sport Seats Plus are standard, while the car has optional 14-way Sport Seats, 18-way Sport Seats Plus and folding lightweight bucket seats made of carbon fibre available at additional cost.

The interior can also be personalized as the car has more than 70 leather interior configurations available, along with 17 exterior colour options.

Weight kept in check

The Carrera T is a lightweight car, shaving as much as 40 kilograms compared to the Carrera.

The Carrera S coupe with MT Package weighs just five kilograms more than the Carrera T coupe, coming in at 1,509 kilograms.

Canadian availability and price

Canadians can now place their orders. Deliveries are expected to begin near the end of 2026.

The 2027 911 Carrera S with MT Package has a starting Canadian manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $177,500 for the coupe and $191,800. Those are increases of $12,118 for the coupe and $11,600 for the convertible compared to the standard Carrera S with a PDK transmission.

Once you include various fees, levies and luxury tax, the 2027 Carrera S with MT package comes to starting prices of $200,302 for the coupe and $217,462 for the cabriolet.
