Mercedes-Benz revealed a new entry-level version of its electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
And while the car loses gobs of power, its acceleration numbers remain spectacular.
Best of all, the car promises tremendous range.
The all-new 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is powered by an 800-volt high voltage battery with a usable capacity of 106 kWh.
The car has an estimated driving range of more than 800 kilometres, based on the European-observed WLTP test standards.
That figure will be reported lower in North America as our EPA/NRCan standards use a more rigorous test cycle. We could see that range figure exceed 685 kilometres on a full charge.
The car is also capable of 600-kW charging speeds. Such chargers aren’t currently available in Canada; our public Level 3 chargers top out at little more than 300 kW. However, if and when 600-kW charging becomes available here, the GT 53 could add more than 500 kilometres of range in as little as 10 minutes of charging.

AMG GT 53 powertrain
The car does lose power compared to its higher-end siblings, but it still has plenty of go.
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain produces a peak output of 536 hp, or 362 hp of continuous power, and 590 lb.-ft. of torque.
That’s good enough to propel the car from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
The car also has a top speed of 230 km/h, or 250 km/h with the AMG Driver’s Package.

Specs compared to GT 55 and GT 63
In comparison, the one-up GT 55 model has a peak output of 805 hp (503-hp continuous output) and 1,328 lb.-ft. of torque, and a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds.
The top dog GT 63 has a peak output of 1,153 hp (711-hp continuous output) and 1,475 lb.-ft. of torque, giving it a zero to 100 km/h time of 2.4 seconds.
It’s possible we’ll see even more variants as the car’s electric architecture is capable of outputs of more than 1,340 hp, the automaker said.
Mercedes said the front-axle electric drive unit on the GT 53 acts as a “boost” motor, engaging instantly as needed.

Tons of tech
This may be the “entry level” AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, but there’s nothing entry level about its content. The car has numerous sophisticated features, such as an AMGForce Sport+ drive program, a synthetic sound recreating an AMG 3-litre inline six-cylinder engine, an AMG Ride Control suspension with air springs and adaptive damping and more.
The interior combines a driver-focused cockpit that’s also comfortable for long drives, Mercedes said.
Availability
Canadian market details such as launch timing and price haven’t been provided.
Look for the car to arrive sometime next year. In the United States, the AMG GT 53 will be available in early 2027.
