Canada’s lowest priced two-door car is getting a few updates to give it a more refined ride while also improving driver confidence in spirited driving.

Toyota gave the GR86 a few tweaks for the 2027 model year.

The 2027 Toyota GR86 is now available to buy in Canada and has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $33,400. That’s an increase of $505 over the base 2026 version.

Once various dealer fees and levies are included, the 2027 GR86 comes to an estimated starting price of $36,412.

Improved ride

The car’s engineers from the Gazoo Racing team made a few adjustments to improve the car’s controllability, convenience and comfort, Toyota said.

For starters, the team refined the car’s throttle for a smoother, more linear response.

Another update was to widen the chamfer of the shifter interlook between the fourth and fifth gears by about half a millimetre to give the car a smoother shift feel. Toyota said this gives the car an improved fifth-to-fourth downshift feel for a more natural connection during spirited driving.

The car gained a new stereo camera that nearly doubles detection of preceding vehicles when using cruise control. The car also gained a monocular camera, which helps detect nearby objects at intersections.

New interior option

The car also gains a new Cockpit Red interior colour, which adds red leather accents to the cabin. These accents can be seen on the side bolsters, floor mats and door accents. The accents are a contrast to the car’s black Ultrasuede interior. An all-black interior option is also available.

The Premium models also pick up a new cast iron black finish on several interior touchpoints, including on switches, knobs and the shifter.

New colour

The 2027 GR86 also has a new colour option called Thunder. This solid grey is said to shift colour depending on the light. It also helps accentuate the car’s sculpted body, Toyota said.

The base model is only available in three colours. Those are: Raven, Track bRed, and Halo. The base model also has a black interior.

The Premium model has six available colours. They are: Raven, Track bRed, Halo, Pavement, Thunder, and TRUENO Blue.

The Premium model with an automatic transmission has a black interior.

The Premium model with a manual transmission in Raven, Halo or Thunder exterior colours can be paired with a red interior.

About the GR86

The Toyota GR82 is a lightweight 2+2 sports coupe with rear-wheel drive. Models with the stick shift weigh 1,275 kilograms and the automatic increases weight to 1,293 kilograms.

The car is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The car is also equipped with a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, which helps improve cornering traction.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The estimated starting Canadian prices of the 2027 Toyota GR86 are as follows:

• Base – $36,412 (MSRP of $33,400 plus fees and levies)
• Premium MT – $39,802 (MSRP of $36,790)
• Premium AT – $41,377 (MSRP of $38,365)
