The Subaru BRZ rear-wheel-drive sports coupe has been available in Canada for 15 years.

To celebrate, the automaker has launched a Canada-exclusive version of the car, the 2027 Subaru BRZ 輝 Kagayaki Edition.

The special-edition BRZ is limited to just 50 cars.

For those who need a refresher, the BRZ is a twin of the Toyota GR86, formerly Toyota 86 and Scion FR-S, with the Subaru and Toyota twins (“Toyobaru”) being nearly identical with minor cosmetic and content differences, and, of course, wearing different badges.

The BRZ is a lightweight sports car powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre Subaru boxer engine producing 228 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Most trims are offered with a six-speed manual and the Sport-tech version comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Four trims to choose from

For 2027, the BRZ is offered in four trim levels: the base model, which is stick-shift-only, the next up Sport-tech, which is auto-only, the performance-focused manual-only tS, and the Canadian-exclusive 輝 Kagayaki Edition, which is also offered with a stick shift only.

Kagayaki is Japanese for “radiance.” Subaru set out to give the car a radiant look with its exclusive Ceramic White exterior colour.

It also has contrasting elements including matte black badging, crystal black fender vent accents and a crystal black rear trunk spoiler.

It rides on 18-inch matte bronze aluminum alloy wheels.

The special edition car is based on the tS and has the features of that car, plus some exclusive elements.

BRZ tS highlight features include:

  • STI-tuned suspension with Hitachi-Astemo front dampers and retuned rear dampers
  • Brembo high-performance braking system with gold-painted calipers
  • 18-inch black aluminum alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires
  • Exclusive tS badging
  • Blue-accented leather and Ultrasuede seating surfaces
  • STI-branded engine start button complete the package
  • Rear sonar parking sensors are new for 2027

The 輝 Kagayaki Edition adds elements such as a unique appearance package, plus adds STI flexible V-bars under the hood for improved handling and sharper response.

On the inside, the car has blue-accented front seatbelts with leather and Ultrasuede seating surfaces.

The seven-inch digital instrument cluster gets a unique “ZC15” animation during engine start-up to commemorate 15 years of the car.
