BMW has revealed a concept car that gives us a pretty clear view of the automaker’s future electric plans, including what an upcoming electric M3 could look like.
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse was revealed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It’s a preview of the new BMW M design language for EVs and signals the brand’s all-electric plans, the company said.
“The new BMW M design language forms the expressive spearhead of the Neue Klasse – determined and purposeful,” said Oliver Heilmer, head of design for BMW compact class, Neue Klasse and BMW M, in a news release. “At BMW M, form consistently follows function. Every detail serves performance. This project is truly special to me because it carries the BMW M character into a new era.”
The automaker also showed off the concept car side by side with the E30-generation M3, the original M3, dropping another hint at its future potential.

Drivetrain
The automaker said the car uses a BMW M eDrive drivetrain that’s based on the Neue Klasse’s Gen6 technology.
It includes four electric motors with central control software, called BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, operating the mechanicals.
The system has wheel-specific control, which BMW said opens up the potential for driving dynamics and safety.
The car operates on 800-volt technology and the concept vehicle h as a battery with more than 100 kWh of electric juice, with BMW promising it will have long-range driving capability.
