Jaguar is getting ready to reveal the Type 01, the first car from its “new era,” and has brought a prototype of the electric grand tourer to Monaco.
The folks at the British marque drove the prototype, wearing camouflage body wrap, around the circuit prior to the May 16 Monaco E-Prix in Monte Carlo.
The Type 01 is an electric four-door GT with a tri-motor powertrain with more than 1,000 PS (986 hp) and more than 1,300 Nm (959 lb.-ft.) of torque.
The automaker said the car’s development utilized learnings from Jaguar TCS Racing’s all-wheel-drive control software and fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters.
The car’s regenerative braking, range and fast-charging capability were also enhanced by technology developed for the track, the company said.
Jaguar called the Type 01 a composed yet powerful GT.
“To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams. This helped us develop innovative solutions for our luxury four-door GT that drives like no other electric car,” said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, in a news release.
Jaguar will fully reveal the Type 01 later this year.
