We’ve seen the concept car that’s to inspire Jaguar’s foray into its “new era,” and now we have the name of the very first production car of the brand’s rebirth.
The car will be called the Type 01.
Now, we just have to wait for the car’s reveal.
Jaguar said we’ll see prototypes of the Type 01 in camouflage at the 2026 Monaco E-Prix, which happens May 17 and 17, while the production car will be fully revealed later this year.
About the name
Jaguar explains the naming convention of the new luxury car.
The automaker has used Type in the names of numerous vehicles. The first use of that word appeared on the C-type, the 1951 Le Mans race-winning car.
Later came production cars such as the E-Type and F-Type.
As for the number 01, Jaguar said the 0 represents zero tailpipe emissions, since the car will be fully electric, while the 1 represents the car’s status as the first Jaguar of the new era.

About the Type 01
The Type 01 will be a luxury four-door grand tourer powered by a tri-motor electric powertrain.
Jaguar said the Type 01 will produce more than 1,000 PS (986 hp) and more than 1,300 Nm (959 lb.-ft.) of torque.
“We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car yet reflects a unique provenance,” said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, in a news release.
“The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!’”
