Chevy Bolt joins Canadian race to EV price bottom

Chevrolet Canada is offering a discount through May to sweeten the deal on the 2027 Bolt, which is already one of the country’s lowest priced electric vehicles in 2026.

When General Motors revived the Bolt this year it was with the intention of it being one of the lowest priced electric vehicles available in North America.

It certainly achieved that as the Bolt, launched as a 2027 model, has a Canadian starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $39,999, coming in at that sweet spot to match the price of the Fiat 500e (MSRP of $39,995), which had been Canada’s cheapest EV two years running.

Then came the Kia EV4, which launched at the start of this year and undercut the others by a grand with a starting MSRP of $38,995.

And if that wasn’t enough, as of this month, Tesla lowered the price of its Model 3 to a starting MSRP of $39,490, coming in just below the Bolt in price.

On top of that, Fiat Canada launched the 2026 500e with a $7,000 discount, which in May the company increased to $8,000.

But, Chevrolet Canada isn’t letting its Bolt fall behind in the race to EV price bottom, and this is great news for potential buyers.

Chevrolet Canada is advertising a $4,000 discount through May on the 2027 Bolt. Plus, the car qualifies for Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, which offers a rebate of up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease of an EV. The 500e and EV4 also qualify for this government rebate.

Between Chevrolet’s non-stackable cash delivery allowance (discount) and the Canadian EV rebate, plus various manufacturer fees and levies, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt can be had for as little as $35,018.

The discount is offered until June 1.

About the 2027 Bolt

The revived 2027 Bolt is essentially the former Bolt EUV, which was discontinued at the end of 2024, with some upgraded mechanical bits, including the inclusion of a North American Charging Standard charge port, allowing it to plug into Tesla Superchargers.

The subcompact SUV has a front-wheel-drive powertrain with 210 hp and an estimated driving range of 422 kilometres on a single charge.

The five-seater has a standard 11.3-inch centre touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display, and various standard and optional safety and driver assistance features.

Equinox EV discount

If you need something larger than the Bolt, Chevrolet Canada also has discount offer on its compact electric SUV.

The 2026 Equinox EV has a $5,000 discount offer this month, bringing its starting price to $40,218, once additional fees and the EVAP rebate are factored in.

Full model and discount offer details are available on the Chevrolet Canada website.
