The Kia Niro subcompact SUV will not survive into 2027 in Canada.

Kia Canada confirmed it is discontinuing the model here following the 2026 model year. The Niro will still be available in other markets.

The Niro is unique in that it had been offered as a hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicle.

It was also among the lowest-priced models in all those categories in Canada, including being the absolute cheapest PHEV in Canada for 2026.

The PHEV had been dropped from Kia’s Canadian lineup a little earlier this year, while the hybrid and EV versions remain advertised as being available, as of this writing.

The 2026 Kia Niro Hybrid has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $30,845, which with fees and levies brings its starting price to about $33,730.

The 2026 Kia Niro EV has a starting MSRP of $45,595, which with fees and levies included has a starting price of $47,771.

Which models will Kia steer customers toward?

Kia Canada has two other vehicle models that should replace the hybrid and EV versions of the Niro.

“With the launch of our Seltos HEV powertrain and EV3, we have the right mix within the segment to support the Canadian market,” a Kia Canada spokesperson said via email.

The hybrid-powered Seltos will likely be a pricier replacement for the hybrid Niro while the EV3 is a cheaper alternative to the electric Niro.

The Seltos entered its second generation for the 2027 model year and has multiple powertrain options. The hybrid version has not yet launched in Canada and its price hasn’t been announced.

The EV3 is entirely new for 2027 and is already available in Canada. It’s also one of the lowest priced electric vehicles in the country with a starting MSRP of $36,995. With fees and levies included, the 2027 Kia EV3 starts at just a hair below $40,000.
