Another Chinese automaker has opened a Canadian web presence.

This time it’s BYD, the world’s largest maker of electric vehicles by sales volume.

BYD’s Canadian web presence is merely a web page on its website, byd.com, which simply says “coming soon.”

You can navigate to the Canadian page on byd.com by clicking on the little globe on the top right corner and you’ll find Canada listed under America. You can select to see the site in English or French.

About BYD

BYD is one of four Chinese automaker reportedly pursuing an entry into the Canadian market. The others include Geely, Chery and Dongfeng. Dongfeng also has a Canadian website.

BYD was founded in 1994 and currently operates in more than 120 countries and on six continents. The company accumulated 4.6 million global vehicle sales in 2025 – not all of them were EVs.

BYD also briefly assembled electric buses in Canada, starting in 2019, but that facility shut down a few years after opening.

BYD also operates various vehicle sub brands, including the Yangwang brand, which is notable for making the world’s fastest car, when tested in a single-direction run.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme managed a top speed of 308.4 mph (496.2 km/h) at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg.

At this time, BYD hasn’t offered much details about its Canadian plans or what vehicle will be sold here, but we at least know the company is coming and soon.
