When Ford ditched the F-150 Lightning, it did not ditch the electric pickup truck segment.

And the automaker’s next effort electric truck promises big things, albeit in a smaller package, for people on a budget.

The automaker announced its new electric truck will be called the Fathom and it will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $38,690 in Canada, once you include Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program rebate of up to $4,000.

EVAP offers a rebate for purchases or leases of brand-new EVs and PHEVs made in Canada or in countries with which Canada has a free-trade agreement with. Vehicles made in countries with a free-trade agreement with Canada must be sold for no more than $50,000.

EVAP currently offer a rebate of up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease of an EV, but that amount will be lowered to $4,000 by the time the Ford Fathom goes on sale in 2027.

Ford Canada said the Fathom will be available for pre-order in early 2027.

More about the Fathom

The Ford Fathom has not yet been fully revealed, but it will be a midsize truck, same as the Ford Ranger (one size down from the F-150).

Ford said the Fathom’s projected passenger volume will surpass the Toyota RAV4, Canada’s top-selling compact SUV.

The electric truck will also have bidirectional power capability, meaning it can be charged and it can power external devices.

It will also have plenty of tech, including a large touchscreen, digital key, Ford’s BlueCruise capability, plus a frunk for increased cargo capacity and more.

The Fathom will run on a new universal platform that will also underpin other, more affordable Ford electric vehicles.
