Check out Bugatti’s latest one-off, Destrier

The Bugatti Programme Solitaire division produces two singular vehicles per year and the Destrier is the third such vehicle.

Bugatti has revealed another vehicle that’s more exclusive than even … well, Bugattis.

The automaker revealed the third vehicle from its Bugatti Programme Solitaire, which builds two customer-commissioned vehicles per year.

The latest example of this singular program is the Destrier, a one-of-one creation based on the Bugatti Bolide track car.

The previous two Solitaire vehicles were the Bugatti F.K.P. Hommage and the Brouillard.

What is the Destrier?

Bugatti said the Destrier was created to stand among the most significant designs in the company’s history.

It’s named after the strongest type of medieval knight’s horse, the destrier.

Bugatti set out to create an engineering package untouched by wings, vents and aerodynamic additions.

The automaker called it an instinctive and emotional design-first sculptural masterpiece.

The car is just one metre tall and rides on wheels measuring 20 inches up front and 21 inches in the rear. The Bolide rides on 18-inch rollers, so the new wheels look massive on the Destrier.

Bugatti points out the Destrier does today what the Type 57 did in the 1930s. The Type 57 chassis underpinned racers and street vehicles, and so the latest Bugatti takes the Bolide race car’s chassis and turns it into a street car.

The car uses the Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque.

The horseshoe grille is wider than it is on the Bolide.

Interior gets a warm brown colour

The Destrier loses the Bolide’s motorsports-focused cockpit and instead gets a warm interior.

Every material was selected by the buyer, and three materials define the cabin. These are leather and nubuck, which have an “Ambre Voyageur” warm brown colour, and an advanced 3D-knitted textile.

Bugatti said the knitted material creates seamless, three-dimensional surfaces.

Copper yarns run through the material, creating highlights in a “halo-line” pattern.

The car also has a small French flag at the heart of the cabin.
