Kia’s small new electric van is unique in Canada but it’s not for your family

The all-electric 2027 Kia PV5 arrives with a 360-kilometre range and a price tag of less than $50,000.

Kia Canada has announced pricing for the company’s newest all-electric van.

With a price tag of just less than $50,000, it offers serious value in a segment that basically doesn’t exist in Canada.

But the small van is not for families.

The 2027 Kia PV5 is a small commercial van, offering only two seats and an open cargo area behind the driver and passenger.

Some markets have access to the PV5 Passenger, essentially the same van but with seating for up to seven people, but Canada is getting the cargo van version only, at least for now anyway.

The small commercial van segment has been vacated by all automakers in Canada, but Kia and Ram are bringing it back in 2027. Ram is reviving the ProMaster City, also a small cargo van, for the 2027 model year.

The difference between Ram and Kia’s approaches is that the PV5 runs on electricity while the ProMaster City uses a combustion engine.

About the Kia PV5

The PV5 is powered by a 71.2-kWh battery and has an estimated driving range of 360 kilometres.

It comes standard with a North American Charging Standard charge port, and it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes of charging under ideal DC fast-charging conditions.

It has an estimated cargo volume of 5,016 litres and a 1,631-pound payload. The van has a 2,995-millimetre wheelbase.

Canadian pricing

The 2027 Kia PV5 has the following all-in starting prices in Canada:

  • PV5 Basic – $49,744 (MSRP of $46,995 plus fees and levies)
  • PV5 Plus – $51,844 (MSRP of $49,095 plus fees and levies)

It’s expected to be available in Canada in the fourth quarter of 2026.
