The Hummer, both new and old, is large and in charge.
But fans of the vehicle series inspired by the Humvee military vehicles will remember that the former Hummer brand had a smaller version.
Hummer’s H3 was a midsize SUV and the H3T was an equivalent pickup truck. Both models went out of production at the end of 2010 when General Motors shut down the Hummer brand.
The brand is no more, but GM revived the Hummer name when it launched the all-electric GMC Hummer pickup truck and SUV starting with the 2022 model year.
The current SUV and pickup truck, while electric, remain true to the original Hummer H2 ethos: large and in charge.
But could a smaller H3-like variety of Hummers be on its way?
GM revealed a pair of concepts, the GMC Hummer X SUV and truck, both of which are intended to be highly reconfigurable midsize EVs.

Both are envisioned to be capable rock crawlers, GM said, and engineered on a modular platform.
Neither, however, is intended for production.
They were created as part of the official opening of a new advanced GM design studio in Pasadena, California.
Yet, maybe, they could spawn a smaller Hummer in the future.
“The studio’s focus area is on conceptual design studies, which are intended to drive ideation and collaboration across the company, as designers look beyond current production programs to envision ‘what could be,’” GM said in a news release.
“Southern California isn’t just a place where we work, it’s a place of unfiltered inspiration. Film, art, architecture, aerospace, technology and the remarkably diverse topography create an unparalleled canvas of experiences that drives an incredibly unique vehicle culture,” said Bryan Nesbitt, vice-president of global design, GM, in the release.
“These sources of inspiration influence how our designers see the world to envision what mobility could offer 10 or 20 years into the future, exploring new designs, technology and experiences for GM customers.”
So, who knows, maybe in a decade or two we’ll see another Hummer H3.
