The Toyota Corolla is celebrating its 60th anniversary and the automaker launched a special edition version to celebrate.

The car debuted in Japan in 1966.

The celebratory 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary special edition car will be sold in limited numbers.

It will be limited to 250 units in Canada.

Exclusive content

The car will get some exclusive, mostly cosmetic content.

For starters, the special-edition car, available only in sedan body style, is based on the SE Hybrid grade of the Corolla, a popular upper mid-range model, but it gets some distinguishing features.

The anniversary model will be sold in two colours, white or Supersonic Red (pictured), the latter colour being exclusive to the special edition car.

The car rides on 18-inch machined black-finish alloy wheels, an homage to earlier models of the current generation.

SE badging has been replaced with 60th Anniversary badges on the exterior.

On the inside, the car’s seats gets black and red sport fabric inserts.

The car also has a 10.5-inch Toyota Multimedia system, 60th Anniversary door sills and 60th Anniversary floor mats.

The 2027 Corolla 60th Anniversary is powered by the Corolla’s hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission providing 134 hp.

The hybrid has a fuel efficiency rating of 4.7 L/100 km.

The rest of the Corolla lineup

The entire Corolla lineup of compact cars is available in sedan and hatchback body styles and with the aforementioned hybrid powertrain or the base powertrain with an internal combustion engine only.

ICE models get a 2-litre four-cylinder engine with intelligent dual variable valve timing, producing 169 hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque and still returning a respectable fuel efficiency of 6.7 L/100 km.

The majority of the 2027 Toyota Corolla lineup will arrive in Canada this fall, but the anniversary model will arrive early next year. Pricing wasn’t provided.
