The feat was achieved at a low-speed test track in Italy at an average speed of 29 km/h.

The Volkswagen team is touting the efficiency of its ID.7 Pro S electric car, which achieved a travel distance of 941 kilometres on a single charge.

The midsize sedan’s WLTP (European) range rating is 709 kilometres. The ID.7 is not currently available in Canada.

So how did the car get such range?

The team drove the car, which is fitted with an 86-kWh (net) capacity battery, on a 12.5-kilometre slow-speed circuit in Nardò, Italy at temperatures of 5 to 15 C at an average speed of 29 km/h.

The test track is designed to simulate various traffic scenarios and endurance tests.

The automaker said the drag coefficient of the ID.7 Pro S is 0.23 and features an efficient drive motor that makes it possible for the car to consume between 13.6 and 16.2 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle. It can also accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, the automaker said.

In late 2024, the automaker also took the same car on a drive on real roads in Switzerland where it achieved a driving distance of 794 kilometres.

“We are seeing a positive trend in incoming orders in Europe and are currently selling more ID.7 models than Passat,” said Martin Sander, member of the board of management responsible for sales, marketing and after sales at the Volkswagen brand, in a news release. “This shows that the ID.7 is a meaningful all-electric addition to the brand’s product portfolio and, in addition to our successful Passat, is also suitable for long distance drivers and as a company car.”

There is no official word on when the ID.7 will arrive in Canada.
