Volkswagen Canada is issuing a last call for potential buyers of its hot hatch siblings who wish to row their own gears.
The Golf GTI and Golf R are currently in their final year available with a manual transmission, as the next generation of the car, set to debut for the 2025 model year, will be available with an automatic only.
“The manual Golf GTI has been a cornerstone of our brand’s identity and holds a special place in our history,” said Edgar Estrada, president of Volkswagen Canada, in a news release. “Its legacy resonates deeply within Volkswagen, embodying our commitment to the drive and dedication to craftsmanship. As we announce the end of this chapter, we will continue to build the GTI tradition through engineering and innovation as we shape the future of Volkswagen.”
The automaker said it remains committed to delivering exceptional driving experiences embraced by new technologies.
A send-off version of the car, the GTI Golf 380, features subtle updates to the interior and exterior ambient lighting, a head-up display and adaptive dampers, which is standard content on all 2024 GTIs with a manual transmission.
“We’re thrilled that Volkswagen drivers haven been able to experience the pure joy of feeling connected to the road. Going forward, those memorable drives will be enhanced by new VW technologies,” said Lynne Piette, director of marketing at Volkswagen Canada, in the release.
The 2024 Golf GTI is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 241 hp and has a starting price of $34,795, before fees, levies and taxes. However, the six-speed manual is available on the more expensive Autobahn trim that has an MSRP of $36,895.
The 2025 Golf R is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 315 hp and has a starting price of $49,195, before fees, levies and taxes.
