Cheapest electric vehicles available in Canada in 2025

Chevrolet, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen sell 2025 model year electric cars and SUVs priced below $55,000.

EVs are still more expensive to buy than their gasoline-burning counterparts; however the number of makes and models is rising and the prices are falling.

Here, we’ve got a list of electric cars and SUVs available in Canada in 2025 with a price of less than $55,000, including fees and levies.

The following article is neither a review nor a recommendation, it is simply a list of what’s available. Starting advertised price is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), plus fees and levies. Fees and levies may differ by location. Tax is extra. Government rebates are not included in shown price. Dealers may set their own prices. Check with your local dealer for an exact price.

Nissan Ariya

Starting advertised price: $52,921 (MSRP of $49,998)

Nissan has a pair of EV models available in Canada, with the Ariya (pictured up top) being the company’s premium electric SUV. There are various powertrain and battery options, but the base model with front-wheel drive has a range of 348 kilometres. Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels with aero wheel covers, front and rear capacitive door handles with approach unlock and walk-away lock, front and rear heated seats, a 12.3-inch drive-assist display and more.

Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen ID.4

Starting advertised price: $51,331 (MSRP of $48,495)

The ID.4, in base trim with rear-wheel drive, has a driving range of 332 kilometres. There are higher priced grades available with greater range. Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, Travel Assist, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist and emergency brake, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting with up to 10 colours, and more.

Toyota bZ4X

Toyota bZ4X

Starting advertised price: $49,568 (MSRP of $46,515)

The base model bZ4X features front-wheel drive with a 201-hp motor up front and an estimated driving range of 406 kilometres. For an additional $501, you can move up to the all-wheel-drive model, but then range falls to 367 kilometres. Standard features include Toyota Multimedia, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, dual-zone automatic climate control with an automatic air circulation control system, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel on a tilting/telescoping column, front centre console box, and more.

Hyundai Kona

Hyundai Kona

Starting advertised price: $49,178 (MSRP of $46,499)

The Kona SUV has a range rated at 420 kilometres and comes loaded with standard features such as adaptive cruise control with traffic stop and go, blind-spot collision warning, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian, cyclist, junction-turning and direct-oncoming detection, and high beam assist, as well as comfort features, including a standard heated steering wheel and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with navigation.

Kia Niro EV

Kia Niro EV

Starting advertised price: $48,576 (MSRP of $45,595)

The Niro is available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and as an EV. The EV has a range rated at 407 kilometres on a single charge. The car comes with a host of safety features, including rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, lane keep and follow assist, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist, as well as tech features including a 10.25-inch driver screen and a 10.25-inch multimedia screen. There’s an available heat pump, which can warm up the battery to preserve driving range in cold winter weather.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

Starting advertised price: $48,333 (MSRP of $44,999)

Chevrolet’s compact SUV is marketed as Canada’s most affordable EV with more than 500 kilometres of estimated range. The base model with front-wheel drive is estimated to go 513 kilometres on a single charge. Standard features include 19-inch aluminum wheels, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen with Google built-in compatibility, 11-inch driver screen, heated front seats and steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and a host of advanced safety features.

Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf

Starting advertised price: $44,596 (MSRP of $41,748)

With the Nissan Leaf, you get a car with a 147-hp motor powered by a 40-kWh battery (60 kWh optional) for a driving range of 240 kilometres. You have to step up to the SV Plus model to get the larger battery, which comes with a driving range of 342 kilometres, but it’s more costly with a starting price of $50,346. The Leaf comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, ProPilot Assist for steering assist and intelligent cruise control, Intelligent Around View Monitor, Nissan Connect and more.

Fiat 500e

Starting advertised price: $42,190* (MSRP of $39,995) (2024 model)

Fiat hasn’t announced 2025 model year pricing yet, so we’re going with the 2024 information here. The 2024 model, as of Dec. 31, 2024, includes a $1,000 manufacturer discount, bringing the price down to $41,190. This article will be updated when 2025 information becomes available. The 500e comes with loads of tech, including a Uconnect 5 NAV multimedia system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and more. The car has an estimated 227-kilometre driving range.
