Honda’s hot hatch is becoming more comfortable for 2027 without losing any of the heat that makes it so special.

The automaker unveiled an updated 2027 Honda Civic Type R, which gets new Ultrasuade interior elements, heated seats, updated tech, new performance features and more.

The car is available in a single trim and only with a six-speed manual transmission.

The 2027 Honda Civic Type R has a starting Canadian manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $54,850. With fees and levies included, the price climbs to about $58,307.

New styling and performance features

Honda is giving the hot hatch a more aggressive front fascia with a deeper front splitter and larger grille opening.

Honda said the airflow velocity has been improved by reducing turbulence, which increases engine cooling and helps sustain performance during track driving.

The engine cover has also been redesigned to be similar to those of early generation Type Rs that were sold in Japan.

A yoke spring has been added to the brake pedal, which helps provide a more direct feel.

Three exclusive colours are available for the 2027 Type R. They include the newly added Meteoroid Grey Metallic along with Boost Blue and Championship White.

More comfortable interior

The Type R is getting heated front seats for the first time. Honda said the sport bucket seats have three levels of heat level. The red high-friction suede-like seat upholstery is getting a new perforation design with black striping for a more sporty appearance.

Honda said the material reduces body slippage in high-G driving situations, but it’s also breathable, which helps reduce driver fatigue.

Honda upped the interior premium feel thanks to a new diamond-pattern trim panel with a black surround, black air vent knobs and soft, premium Ultrasuede applied to the upper instrument panel and front doors.

Honda said the Ultrasuede instrument panel reduces glare and reflections on the windshield, improving the driver’s ability to see.

The aluminum shift knob, interior door handles and console trim now have a dark grey finish, while the climate control knobs are black and the front door panel trim is silver.

More technology

The 2027 Type R is getting Alexa built-in and Google built-in. The Google built-in features Google Gemini, which is an AI-powered virtual assistant, as well as Google Maps and Google Play.

Two USB-C ports have been added to the centre console above the wireless phone charger.

All 2027 Civic Type Rs get the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive systems.

Powertrain

The Honda Civic Type R is powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged VTEC engine with 315 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.

Power is routed to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Canadian availability

The 2027 Honda Civic Type R will be available at Canadian dealerships this fall.
