The Toyota Crown is picking up bold new styling and a more frugal powertrain for the 2027 model year.

The car is not entering a new generation, but the current one is getting a bit of an update.

The Crown is Toyota’s luxury sedan and replaced the former Avalon in the automaker’s lineup.

Updated Powertrain choice

The 2027 Crown is available in two trims.

The top-of-the-line Platinum model maintains the car’s Hybrid Max powertrain that pairs a 2.4-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a direct-shift six-speed automatic transmission. This one produces 340 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

New for 2027, the Limited trim picks up a more efficient fifth-generation Toyota hybrid system. This one pairs a 2.5-litre engine with front and rear electric motors. Toyota said the system delivers a city-highway combined fuel economy rating of 5.9 L/100 km.

Both powertrains feature all-wheel drive.

Bold new style

Toyota also fitted the 2027 Crown with some exterior styling tweaks.

For starters, the car gets a newly sculpted rear bumper.

The car also has a new black colour option called Inked. Additionally, the car’s HEV and AWD badging gets a new satin finish.

The Platinum trim also picks up red brake calipers and a black belt window surround.

Canadian availability

The 2027 Toyota Crown is made in Japan. It will go on sale in Canada in the fall.
