Hyundai Auto Canada made a commitment to Hockey Fights Cancer, but plans to exceed its initial goal.
The car company, through its Hyundai Hope on Wheels charitable organization and working with the NHL, NHL Players Association, NHL Alumni Association and Hockey Fights Cancer, had pledged to donate $10 for every save made by an NHL goalie during the 2025-26 regular season.
With 64,976 saves made during the season, that would work out to a contribution of $649,760.
Hyundai Canada is rounding up that donation to $1 million.
The money will go toward pediatric cancer research.
The round-up was announced during a Hockey Night in Canada segment that aired during the opening game of the Montreal Canadians’ playoff series.
The segment can be seen on the Sportsnet website.
Hockey Fights Cancer was founded by the NHL and NHLPA to raise money for organizations that work to improve the lives of people with cancer.
“Hearing the words ‘you have cancer’ is devastating, and programs like these are essential in offering both help and hope,” said Glenn Healy, executive director of the NHLPA, in a news release. “Today, those saves are making a real difference for children and families facing the fight of their lives.”
