Infiniti reveals the QX65, a luxury two-row SUV

Unlike the QX60, which is a midsize three-row SUV, the QX65 is intended as a more sport-focused luxury SUV with seating for five.

Infiniti has dug into its past to build its future.

The automaker revealed the QX65, a sporty midsize SUV with a bold design. It launches for the 2027 model year.

Fans of the Infiniti brand will likely notice the design of the new model is reminiscent of the FX35 from the 2000s.

Unlike the QX60, which is a midsize three-row SUV with seating for up to seven, the QX65 is a two-row five-seat luxury SUV with a sloping roofline.

The front end is even more muscular looking than that of the QX60 thanks to a larger grille.

“The all-new 2027 Infiniti QX65 accelerates Infiniti into its next era, building on an impressive heritage of standout design language, luxurious client experiences and refined driver performance,” said Eric Ledieu, vice president, Infiniti Americas, in a news release.

Design

The company’s “Artistry in Motion” design language is maintained in the latest model, now with a wider and sportier stance.

While the roofline arches at the back, the SUV maintains a healthy amount of cargo space, with 1,014 litres of space behind the rear seats and 1,917 litres with the rear seats folded.

The QX65 debuts a new colour called Sunfire Red. The paint contains gold-coated glass flecks and requires a three-layer application to achieve its appearance.

Trims

The Sport trim gets a sportier front grille, 20-inch wheels, and gloss black exterior accents, including window trim, roof rails, door trim, rear bumper protector and emblems.

It also gets a graphite headliner and gloss black carbonite interior trim pieces.

The Autograph trim ups the luxury level.

The exterior gets satin chrome window surround trim, 21-inch machined-finish alloy wheels and a black-painted roof.

On the inside, the Autograph gets open-poor wood-toned accents, a quilted dashboard and semi-aniline leather seats with asymmetrical diagonal quilting inspired by the layered folds of a kimono.

Autograph models also get massaging front seats.

There is also the entry-level Luxe grade available.

Tech and audio

Dual 12.3-inch displays with Google built-in, including Google Assistant, are found on the inside.

The infotainment system has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and there’s a Qi2 wireless charging pad.

Two Klipsch audio systems are available.

A 16-speaker Klipsch Premium audio system with 600 watts is standard. It includes an eight-inch TriPower subwoofer and one-inch titanium dome speakers.

The Autograph model gets a 20-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere system with 1,200 watts of power.

The Autograph also has an Individual Audio feature, which uses the headrest speakers for the driver and front passenger, which can be used for private audio uses that don’t bother other occupants, such as phone conversations or listening to navigation directions.

Powertrain

Powering this SUV is a four-cylinder variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engine with 268 hp and 286 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Infiniti said the powertrain was tuned for responsive acceleration and a sportier and more aggressive shift schedule.

Intelligent all-wheel drive is standard and towing capacity is rated at 6,000 pounds.

Safety features

Infiniti QX65 models come loaded with safety and driver assistance systems, including predictive forward collision warning, blind spot warning, blind spot intervention, lane departure prevention, high-beam assist, rear parking sensors and ProPilot Assist.

There are further optional safety features, including front parking sensors, smart rear view mirror and a 10.8-inch colour head-up display.

The Sport and Autograph trims add several camera features, including 3D Around View Monitor, Front Wide View and Invisible Hood View, which give the driver greater view around the vehicle for things such as parking in tight spots or navigating busy and narrow roads.

ProPilot Assist 2.1 is available. This system can take care of acceleration, steering and braking on compatible highways. The driver must maintain alertness and be ready to take over.
