BMW has unveiled a special-edition M4 that celebrates the sports coupe’s 40-year heritage and this one is exclusive to Canada.
BMW Canada unveiled the 2027 M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition.
It’s not that other markets won’t get their own 40th-anniversary M4 cars, but this version, with its available colours and features, is unique to Canada.
Only 40 will be made.
The M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition commemorates the 40-year legacy of the M4, though it wasn’t called that originally.
In recent years, BMW separated its 3 Series car into two separate models, 3 Series for sedans and 4 Series for coupes and convertibles, but the lineage of the M4 can be traced back to the original M3 Coupe, which launched in 1986.

What’s special about the special-edition M4?
The limited-edition M Legacy Edition car is offered in M4 Coupe and M4 Competition Coupe varieties.
The standard M4 features a 3-litre TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine producing 473 hp and rear-wheel drive. BMW Canada didn’t say what transmissions will be offered on the special-edition car but a standard M4 is available with a manual or automatic transmission.
The M4 Competition utilizes the same engine as the M4 but power is boosted to 523 hp. This car has an M xDrive all-wheel-drive drivetrain. The M4 Competition is only available with an automatic transmission.

Exclusive features on the M Legacy Edition cars include:
- 826M style wheels – These distinctive wheels have an exclusive gold bronze finish, previously only offered on CS models.
- Black painted M graphics – these graphics, featuring an “M” in the design, flow from the hood across to the trunk lid. This factory-applied graphic is a first for the Canadian market.
- M Alcantara steering wheel – The steering wheel is said to offer an authentic motorsport feel that was previously reserved for models such as the CS and CSL. It’s standard on the Legacy Edition.
- Historic M paintwork options – The M Legacy Edition cars are available in Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue Metallic, and Imola Red II colours, each of these BMW Individual Manufaktur paint finishes celebrates colours from BMW M’s past, paying tribute to the vibrant palette of the historical M logo.
- Fully loaded – The cars come loaded with M carbon bucket seats, black full Merino leather, Nappa leather dashboard, carbon-fibre interior trim, and M Driver’s Package.
BMW said Canada is the No. 2 global market for BMW M sales making up the largest portion of a country’s total of BMW sales.
“The M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition celebrates this success and the deep connection Canadian drivers have with the BMW M brand,” BMW Canada said in a news release. “This limited-edition model is a tribute to the enthusiastic Canadian M community and BMW’s commitment to delivering exclusive, high-performance vehicles tailored to their tastes.”
