Ford has launched an all-new Mustang version that will slot in between the Dark Horse and GTD versions of the pony car’s lineup.

Meet the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC.

The new version takes the already-powerful Mustang Dark Horse and adds a supercharger and other go-fast goodies. Ford did not release a power figure.

“The Mustang Dark Horse SC was developed by engineers who live their lives at racing circuits, and that track-first mentality is woven into every bolt and calibration of this car,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief program engineer, in a news release.

There are a number of powertrain differences between the new car and regular Dark Horses.

This car has a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while a standard Dark Horse has a naturally aspirated a 5-litre V8 and choices of a 10-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. A regular Dark Horse packs 500 hp.

There are also aerodynamic changes, including a new hood, carbon-fibre venting, revised fascia and underbody venting.

Performance packages

Ford drivers who want to take the Dark Horse SC further, Ford is also making various performance packages available.

The Track Package, for example, gives the car carbon-fibre wheels, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires. It also has a specific ducktail-shaped decklid spoiler that improves the rear wing’s efficiency by 10 per cent, Ford said.

The Track Package also replaces the standard steel suspension components with forged links and has a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace to sharpen steering feel and reduce unsprung mass, Ford said.

The Track Package also sheds about 150 pounds from the car.

There’s also the Special Edition, which receives 3D-printed accents from the GTD, to squeeze out just a bit more performance. Ford said it integrated the MagneRide dampers with revised spring rates and knuckles on the Special Edition.

The Dark Horse SC gets a variable traction control system with five electronic stability control levels, including fully deactivated ESC.

The car also gets the GTD’s leather-wrapped flat-botton steering wheel with a 12 o’clock stripe and performance controls.

The Track Pack comes standard with Dinamica sport seats and has optional Recaro leather seats available.

“The result is a vehicle that sits in the top tier of the Mustang stable – between the Mustang Dark Horse Performance Package and the Mustang GTD,” Groeneveld said.

Canadian pricing wasn’t provided. The car is expected to be available this summer.
