BMW has one-upped its own record for the fastest lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a station wagon.

BMW M development engineer and driver Jörg Weidinger completed a lap at the fabled German track in a time of 7:29.490 with a BMW M3 CS Touring.

The previous record was set in 2022 in a BMW M3 Touring (notice the lack of the CS designation) with a time of 7:35.060 minutes.

“From the very beginning, it was clear that the BMW M3 CS Touring would set new standards in dynamics. With a time under 7:30 minutes, this model impressively demonstrates that this vehicle concept perfectly combines racing DNA with everyday usability,” said BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel in a news release.

The BMW M3 CS Touring is powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 543 hp, has a top speed of 300 km/h and can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, BMW said.

Even so, the car has 500 litres of cargo volume behind the rear seats and 1,510 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Unfortunately for Canadians, the car is not available here.

Nürburgring Nordschleife

The 20.832-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife race track, also called “the Green Hell,” is considered the gold standard for testing vehicle performance due to the circuit’s challenging layout.

BMW had a few fast runs there recently.

The sedan version of the BMW M3 CS was a little quicker than the Touring model with a time of 7:28.760.

The company also ran the BMW M4 CSL there with a lap time of 7:18.137 while the M4 CS came in with a time of 7:21.989.

The smaller BMW M2 CS, which recently launched in Canada, was driven around the track in a time of 7:25.5.
