Ford is joining the fray of automakers creating off-road versions of their sport utility vehicles that rarely leave the pavement.
Ford has launched the Tremor trim of its Explorer midsize SUV, which is launching for the 2026 model year.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished with the Explorer Tremor. It’s a vehicle that combines rugged capability with modern comfort and technology,” said Matthew Duffield, Explorer brand manager, in an online post.
The company said the Explorer Tremor is designed to handle challenging terrain such as muddy trails, sandy beaches and rocky mountain passes. Even so, the automaker says the SUV remains comfortable.

Powertrain
The Explorer Tremor has an available 3-litre EcoBoost engine with 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. It is the same engine that powers the Explorer ST.
For those who want off-road capability but with reduced fuel consumption, the Tremor is available with the optional 2.3-litre engine that powers other Explorers as well.
The Explorer Tremor gets standard four-wheel drive with a Torsen limited-slip differential, which ensures traction on slippery and sandy surfaces.

Off-road features
The Tremor rides on 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
It also has auxiliary off-road lights and electric spice-accented tow hooks.
The approach and departure angles are also improved, Ford said.
The Explorer Tremor gets a unique suspension system with specially tuned springs and sway bars, giving this SUV an extra inch of ride height.
There is also underbody protection at the front and rear to protect vital vehicle components.

Technology
This off-roader also gets a host of comfort and convenience features.
This includes Ford Digital Experience, Copilot 360 Assist 2.0, available massaging front seats, and an optional 14-speaker premium B&O audio system, plus the availability of BlueCruise 1.5 hands-free highway driving technology.
