The BMW 540i will once again grace Canadian roads, but in seriously limited numbers.

What’s more, this will be the first time the current-generation 5 Series car will be offered as a 540i in Canada.

The 5 Series is currently available here as the 530i and the 550e.

The version of 540i Canada is getting is the 2026 BMW 540i xDrive Legacy Edition.

Only 151 will be available.

Ordering is now open and customer deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

What is it?

The car is a unique variant of BMW’s 5 Series, with a powertrain that slots in between the 530i and the 550e.

The 540i gets the automaker’s highly regarded B58 engine, a 3-litre TwinPower Turbo inline-six-cylinder engine with 375 hp and 398 lb.-ft.

The motor is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the car’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

BMW says the car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

Unique elements

The Legacy Edition car features unique visual and performance elements offered in a single, all-inclusive price.

It gets the BMW Individual Manufaktur paintwork (the car shown has the Maldives Blue II Metallic paint colour), which is available at no additional cost, plus black exterior accents. Manufaktur is BMW’s bespoke customization program.

The car also includes the M Sport Pro Package, 21-inch Individual wheels and various premium features.

Interior

On the inside, you’ll find premium materials.

The car’s iDrive system is powered by BMW’s Operating System 8.5 and has a curved display.

There’s also an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
