BMW is updating some of the components it uses in its i4 electric sedan, which is resulting in increased range.
The changes begin on i4 vehicles starting in July 2025.
BMW said the i4 eDrive 35 and the i4 eDrive 40 models will use silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC inverter).
This production tweak is said to reduce the cars’ energy consumption by about 4.5 per cent, which is enough to increase range by as much as 22 kilometres on a full charge.
The actual range increase may depend by model and the equipment installed as part of the configuration.
New range topper
BMW is also replacing the i4 M50 xDrive range-topping model with the M60 xDrive model.
The i4 M60 has 601 hp, an increase of 57 hp compared to the M50, and can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, BMW said.
