BMW has revealed the 2026 M2 CS.
The car is a higher-performance version of the M2 compact sports coupe, which itself is a higher-performance version of the 2 Series (available as 230i and M2401) car, with the M2 CS packing more power, weighing less and getting other upgrades over the M2.
Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
Potential buyers should know the car isn’t cheap.
The 2026 M2 CS has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $125,000 in Canada, which is about $45,000 more than the regular M2.
Let’s explore what all those loonies buys you.
The M2 CS is powered by BMW’s upgraded S58 twin-turbo 3-litre six-cylinder engine and has 523 hp, exactly 50 hp more than the regular M2. The torque figure has been raised by 36 lb.-ft. to 479 lb.-ft, which is available between 2,700 and 5,620 rpm. Redline is at 7,200 rpm.
The power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
The car weighs 44 kilograms less than the M2 with the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The standard M2 is also available with a six-speed manual transmission, but the M2 CS doesn’t have that option.

Performance figures
BMW provides a few performance figures so that we know what we’re drooling over.
Zero to 100 km/h acceleration arrives in 3.8 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds quicker than the Steptronic-equipped M2.
Speeding up from 80 to 120 km/h takes 3.4 seconds.
The top speed is electronically limited to 302 km/h.

How was weight reduced?
BMW was able to shed the car’s weight through extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon fibre-reinforced plastics for exterior and interior components as well as forged M alloy wheels.
You’ll find M exterior mirror caps, an M Carbon roof and a CS-specific rear diffuser made of exposed carbon fibre.
There’s also a matte black front splitter and a unique kidney grille with optimized air inlets.
The carbon fibre-reinforced plastic trunk lid has an integrated ducktail spoiler and wears an M2 CS logo.

Chassis and brake upgrades
There’s more to the M2 CS than just more muscle to go with reduced weight.
BMW said the chassis and brakes were optimized for improved performance.
The car rides 8 mm lower with chassis components adapted for the CS, including unique tuning to the springs, dampers and chassis control systems.
BMW said these modifications improve the car’s dynamics in every scenario, such as extremely hard driving.
Settings for the dynamic stability control and M Dynamic Mode were optimized for the track.

Other components that were revised include the suspension, the M Servotronic steering, M Sport differential and the braking system.
Carbon ceramic brakes with red calipers are optional.
The CS-exclusive forged alloy wheels have a double-spoke design and have a matte gold-bronze finish. They measure 19 inches up front and 20 inches at the rear.
The car comes standard with high-performance tires, but track and ultra-track tires are available.

Interior changes
BMW points out the interior is performance focused.
The interior gets Alcantara upholstery.
The driver and passenger get heated M Carbon bucket seats with illuminated CS logos. The integrated head restraints are removable to accommodate helmet clearance and the seats have the option of integrated multi-point harnesses, for anyone who plans to track their car. The seat surfaces are Black Merino leather.
The flat-bottomed, three-spoke Alcantara steering wheel features a red centre marker at 12 o’clock and has two M buttons to select vehicle setups, which is individually configured.

Occupants will find carbon fibre finishes on interior trim elements, the CS logo on the carbon fibre centre console, M seatbelts and more.
The CS logo on the door trim panels is also illuminated. The colour of the lighting can be set with the ambient lighting.
The M2 CS comes with a Harman Kardon surround sound system, BMW Digital Cockpit Professional, a head-up display with augmented view and more.
There’s a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch control display, powered by the BMW Operating System 8.5.
Various commands, such as ventilation settings, heated seats, heated steering wheel and more can be controlled by touch on the control display or by voice command.

Measurements
The car is 4,587 mm long, 1,887 mm wide and 1,395 mm tall and has a curb weight of 1,710 kilograms.
Production of the M2 CS is expected to start in August in Mexico.
