Kia has announced details of its upcoming EV4, which promises to be a low-cost all-electric option in the compact sedan class.

The car was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.

The all-electric 2026 Kia EV4 will be available in Canada in early 2026, the automaker announced.

“The Kia EV4 breaks the rules of the traditional sedan with its edgy styling, advanced technology and spacious interior,” said David Sherrard, director of strategic planning for Kia Canada, in a news release. “We are continuing to shape the future of accessible EV ownership with the EV4 – a model that will compete in the largest car segment in Canada, providing a first EV affordable option for consumers in the compact sedan market.”

Canadians are expected to have access to these trims:

  • Light FWD Standard Range
  • Wind FWD/AWD Long Range
  • Wind Premium FWD/AWD Long Range
  • GT-Line FWD/AWD Long Range
  • GT-Line Limited FWD/AWD Long Range

Battery and propulsion

The car will be available with two battery sizes. The Light model will ride with a battery capacity of 58.3 kWh while the rest get 81.4 kWh, both of which are on a 400V architecture.

The automaker said the batteries can charge from 10 to 80 per cent with DC fast-charging in as little as 29 (smaller battery) or 31 minutes (larger battery).

The cars come standard with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port, the same that’s used at Tesla Superchargers. The NACS port is located on the front passenger side.

Front-wheel-drive models get a 150-kW (201 hp) front-mounted motor.

Estimated range on front-wheel-drive models is:

  • Light – 378 km
  • Wind – 531 km
  • GT-Line – 482 km

Estimated range for all-wheel-drive modes wasn’t provided.

Kia said it prioritized aerodynamics by incorporating various airflow enhancements, which resulted in a drag coefficient as low as 0.23 Cd.

Kia said the chassis was developed for high levels of ride comfort and refinement as well as engaging dynamics.

Technology

The car also gets the i-Pedal 3.0 system, Kia’s latest single-pedal driving system, allowing you to accelerate, decelerate and completely stop by pressing and depressing the accelerator pedal only.

The car features nearly 30 inches of total screen width. This includes dual 12.3-inch displays and a five-inch climate display.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is standard as are over-the-air updates and the entertainment features can be updated remotely too.

Other standard features include heated front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear A/C vents, and acoustic windshield.

Ventilated front seats with a driver-side memory system and heated steering wheel are available options.

The car also gets various advanced driver assistance features.

The car is assembled in South Korea. Canadian pricing hasn’t been announced.
