There’s something missing in the Genesis lineup.
The luxury automaker no longer has a coupe in its lineup and has never had a convertible available in Canada.
Genesis is not exactly rectifying that but showed off what two such vehicles could look like if it did have such cars in its lineup.
The automaker unveiled the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concept cars at the Seoul Mobility Show in Korea. Both are based on the company’s G90 flagship sedan.
“In the 10 years since our launch, Genesis has been dedicated to delivering its unique values to more than 1.3 million customers worldwide,” said Mike Song, global head of Genesis, in a news release. “We aim to seize this opportunity as a launchpad for a new decade, showcasing models that embody Genesis’ pursuit of high-performance technology and future luxury design.”
The company said both concept cars demonstrate the automaker’s future position as what it calls an emotional luxury brand through distinct typologies.
“Each concept car is a unique expression of Genesis’ luxury ethos designed to provide a sophisticated and immersive driving experience,” said Ilhun Yoon, head of the Genesis Design Centre in Seoul, in the release.
The company said the interior design of the coupe was inspired by Mediterranean olive trees. It includes a door sill plate with the model’s name, specially designed floor mats adorned with olive leaf motifs and a tunnel section featuring quilted stitching.
An olive wood veneer is microperforated for olive-themed atmosphere lighting.
The convertible is said to capture the spirit of fine wines. Its exterior colour is meant to remind you of pressed grapes and the interior colour is described as echoing the deep, rich hues of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy.
The automaker provides more fulsome descriptions of both cars, but the photos probably convey the message with much more clarity.
