Mercedes-AMG has launched a plug-in hybrid E-Class midsize sedan, which offers tons of power, plus enough efficiency to drive around town on all-electric power.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ is now arriving at Canadian dealerships, Mercedes-Benz Canada announced.

It has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $105,000, which after fees and levies are added comes to approximately $111,805.

The new model features a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring an AMG-enhanced 3-litre six-cylinder turbocharged engine and what’s called a permanently excited synchronous electric motor with a total system output of 577 hp and 553 lb.-ft. of torque, or 604 hp with an optional Race Start feature, plus a fully variable all-wheel-drive system.

Zero to 100 km/h is reported to arrive in 3.8 seconds, with the optional Race Start, or in four seconds without. The top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.

The sedan also has an all-electric driving range of 69 kilometres.

An AMG Ride Control suspension system is standard. It features adaptive adjustable damping and active rear-axle steering for improved vehicle dynamics.

Exterior

An optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package adds a high-performance composite brake system with discs measuring 15.4 inches up front and red six-piston calipers, as well as an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, dynamic engine mounts, the aforementioned Race Start feature and an AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather/microfibre.

There are 12 paint finishes to choose from and wheels can be had in sized of 20 or 21 inches.

There are also three exterior design packages to choose from, including AMG Night Package, AMG Night Package Plus and AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre Package.

Interior

The interior can also be customized, with Nappa and Artico leather upholstery choices, an AMG Performance steering wheel available in several finishes and an optional AMG Performance seat package.

There are also several interior trims to choose from, including the standard AMG Illuminated Open-Pore Black Ash Wood, which is exclusive to this model.

An available MBUX Superscreen Package adds a 12.3-inch front passenger display with a selfie and video camera that can be used when the car is stationary.
