Are you looking for vehicle that’s big on passenger space but small on budget? Then, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s a list of 2024 model year minivans and SUVs with three rows of seating available in Canada for less than $50,000.

The list is in descending order, from most to least expensive.

The following article is neither a review nor a recommendation, it is simply a list of what’s available. Starting advertised price is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including fees and levies. Price after tax is what you may expect to pay. Toyota Highlander

The Highlander (pictured up top) is a roomy SUV with three rows of seating, with seven- or eight-seat configurations. In base trim, you get all-wheel drive with rear driveline disconnect, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, eight-way power driver seat and heated front seats and an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

The Nissan Pathfinder is both an off-road worthy 4×4 and a spacious family mover with three rows of seating, available in either seven- or eight-seat configurations. If you need to tow something, the Pathfinder can also pull up to 6,000 pounds, so you won’t have to leave your boat behind. In base trim, the SUV features a 10-way power driver’s seat, including two-way lumbar support, Nissan Connect featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a host of safety features including steer assist and intelligent cruise control.

Toyota’s minivan, the Sienna, is available as a hybrid only and seating is for eight passengers on the base trim. As is common in this segment, higher trims seat seven as the middle row gets more comfortable pilot seats. In base trim, you’ll find comfort features such as heated front seats, heated leather steering wheel, three-zone automatic climate control and other goodies, including roof rails, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and a nine-inch display screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

Subaru Ascent

The Ascent is a midsize SUV with seating for seven or eight passengers, depending on the trim chosen. The Kia Sorento has enough room to pack a family into it as it features three rows of seating. The base model comes in a seven-seat configuration, while all upgraded trims go down to six, as the middle row gets a more comfortable pilot seats setup. The base trim comes with features including smart cruise control with stop and go, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, smart key and push button start, a power driver seat with two-way lumbar support and Kia Connect. The Sorento can also be had as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

Kia Carnival

Kia Carnival

Kia’s minivan, which the company calls a “life utility vehicle,” even in base trim, comes with a host of safety features, including advanced forward collision-avoidance assist, lane follow assist and rear parking sensors. Second-row seats are customizable and removable and LED headlights are standard. Seating for eight is standard, while the minivan is available with optional second-row captain’s seats, in which case you’d have room for seven.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Starting price (with third row): $38,428

VW’s Tiguan comes standard with two rows of seating, but a third row is available on all trim levels, with seating for seven, for an additional cost of $800. In base trim, you get all-wheel drive and front assist with autonomous emergency braking, as well as an eight-inch instrument cluster, heated front seats and other comfort features.

The Outlander is available as a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle and there’s also a plug-in hybrid version available (the PHEV costs extra). The SUV has seating for seven people and standard all-wheel drive.
