Hyundai has big plans for growth in North America and says it is planning to launch 36 all-new or “significantly enhanced” vehicles by 2030 for Canada, the United States and Mexico.
These new vehicles types include passenger cars, SUVs, trucks and commercial vehicles.
This will include internal combustion engine, hybrid, electric and extended-range EV models, which the company said will support customer demand.
“Hyundai is accelerating across North America,” José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said in a news release.
“By expanding our product portfolio and offering a wider range of powertrains in North America, we’re giving customers more choice while continuing to strengthen our long-term investment in U.S. manufacturing, jobs, and the broader automotive ecosystem.”
Production growth in the U.S.
Hyundai is expanding its manufacturing in the United States.
The automaker anticipates that nearly 80 per cent of the vehicles it sells in the U.S. will be made domestically by 2030. The company is spending $26 billion to grow production in the U.S.
Furthermore, Hyundai plans to increase U.S. supply chain content to about 80 per cent, up from the current 60 per cent, by strengthening local sourcing.
Unfortunately, there was no mention of Canada being part of this expanded North American manufacturing.
But, the company hopes that by increasing its U.S. production, it can align better with customer priorities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
