The long-rumoured, much-longed-for Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport has officially been unveiled.
And General Motors didn’t just reveal one car but two, by also revealing the Grand Sport X, a plug-in hybrid version of the Grand Sport.
The automaker said the X will now be used to signify the model’s electric all-wheel drive (eAWD) powertrain. The eAWD arrives courtesy of an electric motor powering the front wheels.
Much like the ZR1X adds a plug-in hybrid component to the ZR1, so does the Grand Sport X to the Grand Sport.

What is the Grand Sport?
The Grand Sport has historically been the mid-performance model. In the contemporary C8 generation, the 2027 Grand Sport slots in between the base Stingray model and the more performance-oriented Z06 model.
Think of it as having the Stingray’s base engine but with the chassis setup and other performance-enhancing additions of the Z06. The automaker calls it the car for purists.
In the 2027 Corvette’s case, the Grand Sport also introduces a brand-new engine.
Where the Stingray currently uses a 6.2-litre V8 engine with 490 hp (495 hp with the Z51 Performance Package), the Grand Sport introduces GM’s next generation of V8 engines.

New 6.7-litre engine
The new naturally aspirated 6.7-litre V8 engine, with the LS6 designation, produces 535 hp and 520 lb.-ft. of torque in the Grand Sport.
The new engine also has increased power and torque across the rev band and has sharper response.
GM said the engine’s new lubrication system, forged pistons and rods and revised exhaust manifolds also ensure durability in extended high-load, high-temperature driving.
The engine sends power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The new engine will also make its way into the 2027 Corvette Stingray.

Enhanced dynamics
While the Grand Sport is powered by the Corvette’s new base engine, it does receive numerous performance enhancements that aren’t included on the Stingray.
The car has a touring suspension setup and magnetic ride control is standard. The car rides on Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires and it has a braking package designed with low brake dust.

Z52 Performance Package
A Z52 Performance Package is available.
It gives the car a stiffer suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires.
It also gives the car the J56 brakes from the Z06.

Z52 Track Performance Package
Buyers can push the performance even further by opting for the Z52 Track Performance Package.
This gives the car a track-focused chassis setup.
Additionally, this package gives the car carbon-ceramic J57 brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires.
Furthermore, the track package gives the car a carbon-fibre splitter, dive plans, rockers and wing, and underbody strakes for greater track capability.

What is the Grand Sport X?
The Grand Sport X builds on the Grand Sport, but a plug-in hybrid system enhances the powertrain.
Power is upped to 721 hp thanks to front axle electric motor, which gets its mojo from a compact battery pack.
The automaker said the battery is centred in the car to help maintain the Corvette’s agility.
The front e-motor gives the car near-instant access to 145 lb.-ft. of torque, GM said. It also improves the car’s corner-exit traction thanks to the addition of all-wheel drive.
Drivers can also utilize the powertrain’s Stealth and Shuttle modes for electric-only driving.
The Grand Sport X comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires. The Performance Package replaces the rubber with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Colours
The Grand Sport and Grand Sport X aren’t only available in blue, but the cars do revive the Admiral Blue Metallic signature colour from the C4 era, along with a white centre stripe and red hash elements.
The revived Admiral Blue Metallic, as well as a new Pitch Gray Metallic, will be available on all 2027 Corvettes.

All ‘Vette models will also have an available asymmetrical Santorini Blue/Jet Black interior.
An Adrenalin Red/Jet Black asymmetrical colour is already available for 2026.

Launch Edition
The 2027 model year Grand Sport models will feature a Launch Edition interior.
These models get a Santorini Blue-Dipped interior colour scheme. Most of the interior is blue with red stitching and accents.
Production of the 2027 Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport models will begin this summer. They’re expected to be available in Canada later in 2026.
Look for pricing to be announced closer to the car’s on-sale date.
