It couldn’t be long after Mercedes-Benz updated its large S-Class sedan that the automaker would update the flagship version of its flagship model.
The automaker announced an updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class on March 24, just less than two months after revealing the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The car is not going into a new generation but is receiving a mid-generation refresh. Even so, much of the car is new.
Europe will get the new Maybach saloon this month, while other markets will receive it after. Look for it to be available in Canada as a 2027 model.

New grille
Just in case the old grille wasn’t large enough, the new grille is 20 per cent larger and has an available luminous surround.
In some markets, the Maybach emblem on the C-pillar and the upright Mercedes-Benz star atop the hood are illuminated.

New exterior touches
The Maybach wordmark is subtly illuminated in the grille frame.
The double-star headlights are accentuated with rose gold touches.
The forged wheels now feature an aligned Mercedes-Benz star, which keeps the star upright even as the wheels are rotating.

Lounge interior
The interior was redesigned to combine craftsmanship and modern features, including an MBUX Superscreen.
Open-poor wood, including grained oak, can be found inside the cabin, paired with soft materials and digital surfaces.
The automaker said the interior has a cocooning effect.
Furthermore, the interior is said to be more refined. It includes automatic comfort doors, executive rear seats, a refrigerated compartment and silver-plated Robbe & Berkin champagne flutes.

Leather-free
The Maybach saloon, for the first time, gets a leather-free upholstery.
The new high-grade textile called Mirville has a natural-fibre look. This upholstery also includes deep white piping with an open-quilted diamond-stitched graphic.
The automaker said the interior meets the company’s exacting standards, matching traditional Maybach leather for esthetics, comfort and durability.

Comfort ride
The car gets a new Airmatic air suspension, which features intelligent, predictive damping to enhance comfort, particularly for rear-seat passengers.
The system uses Car-to-X information from other Mercedes vehicles ahead. This information is transmitted to the automaker’s intelligent cloud, which allows the car to anticipate the road conditions and adjust itself electronically to improve the ride quality.
Mercedes-Benz said the car also received further insulation measures to help suppress noise and vibration.

Tech
The latest version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) makes its Maybach debut in this car.
This user interface includes an virtual assistant powered by generative AI, utilizing technologies from Microsoft and Google, and it can hold complex conversations and can recall previous interactions.
The MBUX Superscreen pairs pairs a 31.2-centimetre driver display, 36.6-centimetre centre display and 31.2-centimetre passenger display under a single sheet of glass. There is also an available 3D display.
In the rear, there are a pair of 31.3-centimetre displays, which are controlled via newly designed and configurable remotes.

The car can also receive regular over-the-air updates and the car’s technology features support advanced driving and parking assistance systems, including the MB.Drive Assist Pro.
The MB.Drive Assist Pro allows for point-to-point driving, including in busy urban settings. This autonomous driving feature will launch in China followed by the United States before becoming available elsewhere.
The car’s active ambient lighting uses 199 LEDs and has 64 individually selectable colours, including a Maybach-exclusive Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow.

Powertrains
The Maybach S-Class is available with three powertrain choices, including six-, eight- and 12-cylinder engines.
The S 580 e with EQ Hybrid Technology is a plug-in hybrid pairing a six-cylinder engine with a 55-kW electric motor. This model can drive about 100 kilometres on electric power alone.
The S 580 gets a more powerful V8 engine with 530 hp (395 kW), an increase of 17 kW over the previous version, and 553 lb.-ft. (750 Nm) of torque, an increase of 205 Nm.
The top-of-the-line S 680 gets either a V8 or V12, depending on market. Either one gets you 603 hp (450 kW). The S 680 also gets mild hybrid support for a more linear and sharper throttle and for more efficiency.
