2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport shows its colours at Sebring

General Motors said the latest Grand Sport, a car built for purists, will feature the company’s latest V8 technology.

The upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport has been shown to the public.

The C8 Grand Sport made an appearance at this year’s 74th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring IMSA race alongside Grand Sport models from the C2, C4, C6 and C7 generations.

The Grand Sport name is a storied one.

Back on March 21, 1964, Roger Penske and Jim Hall won the Twelve Hours of Sebring race in the Prototype GT class in their Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.

Penske, who went on to be a team owner and collaborator with General Motors and Chevrolet, served as the grand marshal for this year’s Sebring race.

“It is an incredible opportunity to be reunited with the Corvette Grand Sport C2 here at the Twelve Hours of Sebring – an event and a track that has always carried special meaning for me and for our race teams over the years,” Penske said in a news release. “Congratulations to Chevrolet on launching the new era of the Grand Sport program. It is truly special to see the C2 and the other generations of the Corvette Grand Sport, including the new C8, here at Sebring.”

The upcoming C8 Grand Sport is set to launch for the 2027 model year.

What is the Grand Sport?

While the car was shown to the public, the car’s specs won’t be revealed until March 26.

GM said the car follows in the footsteps of previous Grand Sport models and is intended for purists.

“Featuring the next generation of GM V8 technology, the C8 Grand Sport is built by and for enthusiasts,” GM said in a news release.

Typically, Grand Sport models are mid-range models. Based on the current Corvette performance hierarchy, the car should sit somewhere between the base Stingray and the performance-focused Z06 models.

The Grand Sport will be offered as a high-volume model, GM said.

Various automotive publications say the car will be powered by GM’s next-gen V8, which is a 6.7-litre unit and exceeds 500 hp.

The car shown at Sebring wore the Admiral Blue colour and a white racing stripe, traditional Grand Sport colours.

The car also has a wide body design.

We’ll have to stay tuned for full details.
